Toshio Yamagata, Japanese physical oceanographer. Recipient prize Meteor. Society Japan, 1987, Purple Ribbon medal Emperor of Japan, 2005, Thomson Science award, 2004; Burr Steinbach scholar Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, 1989.


Yamagata, Toshio was born on March 25, 1948 in Utsunomiya, Tochigi, Japan. Son of Masao and Tel (Satoh) Yamagata.


Bachelor of Science, University Tokyo, 1971. Master of Science, University Tokyo, 1973. Doctor of Science, University Tokyo, 1977.
