Background
The eldest son of Prince Sadasumi, the grandson of Emperor Seiwa, and commonly callea Rokuson-o; was given the family name of Minamoto and appointed Lord of Musashi (Tokyo and Saitama prefectures).

He discovered plots to overthrow the Imperial Court by Masakado Taira and on another occasion by Sumitomo Fujiwara and nipped these attempts with Yoshifuru Ono. After this was promoted commander of local government and then made Lord of Kozuke (Gumma Prefecture). He and his son Mitsunaka helped the Genji family come into power in northeast Japan.
