After graduating from Tokyo University (1907) proceeded to England for further studies where he attended Oxford University.
Career
Returning home was appointed instructor at his alma mater, later professor at Tokyo School of Foreign Languages, which he resigned to take up a professorship at Jochi University. Is noted for his research on the vowel.
