Background
Gamō Ujisato was born in 1556 in Hino, Omi Province (Shiga Prefecture) belonging to the family of Hidesato Fujiwara, Lord of Hino Castle in Omi for generations. Ujisato was known in his childhood as Tsuruchiyo.

In 1579, Gamō Ujisato fought his first battle at the early of 13 when he aided Nobunaga Oda to defeat the Kitabatake family in Ise Province.
In 1590, shortly after Gamō Ujisato became a follower of Hideyoshi Toyotomi and after Ou (north-east part of Japan) was subjugated, he was created Lord of Aizu clan and granted a fief of 420,000 koku of rice which was later increased to one million.
Some records aver that on March 17, 1595 he was poisoned to death by Masamune Date, the Lord of Ou.
In 1579, he married Fuyuhime, Nobunaga's daughter. The couple gave birth to 4 children.
