Background

Valery Fedorovich Shkarubo was born on December 10, 1957, in Borisov, Minsk region, the BSSR (now Borisov, Minsk region, Belarus). From his childhood, Valery was accustomed to hard work of the peasant, and his parents and grandparents were all strongly associated with the work on a farm. At the age of six, Valery took drawing, which surprised his parents, as there were no painters in the family.

Education

From 1965 to 1973, Valery Shkarubo studied in the artistic circle of the House of Pioneers, and three years later, he continued to improve his skills in the art studio of the Palace of Culture in Borisov.

From 1975, Shkarubo studied at the Belarusian State Theater and Art Institute in Minsk (now Belarusian State Academy of Arts), graduating from the design department in 1981.

Career

Valery Shkarubo began his creative career as a computer designer at the Computer Research Institute in Minsk, where he worked for ten years: he developed the facade of the first computers (PVM - personal computers) and had a bundle of industrial inventions as well. However, from the very beginning, he understood that the work of an industrial designer was temporary for him since every evening he led a children's studio, engaged in painting and also was a member of the youth creative association.

In 1984, Valery Shkarubo began to participate in art exhibitions in Belarus and abroad. In 1989, he was admitted to the Belarusian Union of Artists. From that moment on, he fully took up painting. Currently he works as a full-time artist, living with his family in Minsk, Belarus.

  Valery Fedorovich Shkarubo is a noted Belarusian artist, whose artworks can be found in museums (Belarus, China, Germany), as well as in private collections in the USA, France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Greece, Austria, Slovenia, Denmark, Poland, Turkey, China, Russia, and Japan.
  
  In 2014, Valery Shkarubo was given the titles of Honoured Artist of the Republic of Belarus and Honorary Citizen of Borisov district.
  
  On November 20, 2015, in Borisov, in the Central District Library named after I.Kh. Kolodeev, the opening of the Valery Shkarubo Art Gallery (on the second floor of the library with a total area of 130 square meters) was held. Valery Shkarubo donated 30 of his works to his native city that year, and since then, he donates one work every year.

Valery Shkarubo works in easel painting, mainly in the genre of realistic landscape. The components of the artist's manner of writing are scrupulous technique, glaze, fine elaboration of the form, harmony in light and colour, and the profound changeability of the sacred and wind atmosphere. The main plots of his paintings are mysterious forests, quiet rivers, snow-covered fields, village snowdrops, wooden houses against the background of lyrical landscapes.
