Education
In 1943 Valery Ivanovich graduated from the Musical College at Moscow Conservatory in the pipe class. His teacher was Mikhail Innokentievich Tabakov. From 1943 to 1945 he was a graduate of the orchestra of the V.I. Lenin Military-Political Academy. In 1949 he graduated from the Higher School of Bandmasters (Moscow). In 1954 he underwent an adjunct at the Institute of Bandmasters in Moscow.
Career
In 1949-1950 Petrov worked as a commissioned bandmaster of Frunze Military Academy. After that, he was orchestras’ controller of the Voronezh Military District (1956-1960). Petrov was also a lecturer at the Bandmasters’ Faculty of the Moscow Conservatory in different periods of his life (1954-1956, 1960-1982). After that, he took a position of a deputy editor-in-chief of the Main Editorial Board of Music Broadcasting of the USSR State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting (1982-1990).
In last years he was lecturing at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music (1993-2003), and at the same time was a consultant editor of the Russian State Music Center (1995-2002). Works: martial music "Sport festival", "Winter ballade", "Overture", "Heart’s memory" and so on.
