1913 graduate Medical Faculty, Khar’kov University.
1919 founded Organotherapy Institute (later Ukraine Institute of Endocrinology). 1924 defended doctor’s thesis on the preparation, physiological effects and applications of insulin. From 1930 founder-director first Soviet Endocrinological Institute.
From 1930 also professor Chair of General Therapy, then head, Chair of Faculty and Hospital Therapy, Khar’kov Medical Institute. 1931 founded Ukraine Nutrition Institute.
Obtained first Soviet insulin samples at V. Ya. Danilevskiy’s laboratory. Specialized in endocrine diseases, especially diabetes and Basedow’s disease, metabolic disturbances in certain diseases, hypertony, ulcers, pneumonia, et cetera
Proposed the use of insulin-glucose for treating pneumonia. Wrote 175 works on internal medical and endocrinology and edited numerous textbooks and symposia. Company-founder and exec ed, journal Vrachcbnove delo.
