1945 graduate Special Air Force School in Moscow. 1949 graduate Bataysk Military Pilots College. 1959 graduate Zhukovsky Air Force Engineer Academy.
Postgraduate studies at above acad.
1945 joined Soviet Air Force. 1949-1954 fighter pilot with air force units of North Caucasian Military district. 1959-1960 worked for air force research inst.
1960-1967 served with cosmonauts team. 12-13 October 1964, as commander of first threeman spaceship Voskhod, made first group 24-hour flight together with K. P. Fcoktistov and B. B. Yegorov, whereby Voskhod completed 16 orbits of the Earth and covered over 700.000 kilometers. 23-24 April 1967 performed fatal test space flight of Soyuz-1 spaceship.
