In 1868, Malykhin graduated from Mikhailovsky Cadet Corps in Voronezh. After this he also finished the Second Konstantinovsky Military Academy, Nikolaev Engineering College and Nikolaev Engineering Academy.
Malykhin started his army service in an engineer combat battalion. He participated in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. At first he was chief of staff of the 4th engineer combat brigade (1889), but in 1899 Malykhin became chief of this brigade. In retirement since 1907.
Author of the articles «More about I.S. Nikitin» («Voronezh Telegraph» July 20, 1912), «The truth about I.S. Nikitin» («History Herald» 1913, № 3.). Worked at «Engineer journal», «The Russian Invalid», «Officer’s life», War Encyclopedia. Author of the work «Memories of ex-combat engineer of the War of 1877-78», which was published in «Engineer journal», 1891.
Son of Petr Vasilyevich Malykhin, brother of Nikolay Petrovich Malykhin.
