Vladimir Rozhnov, USSR Psychiatrist, state official.


Rozhnov, Vladimir was born in 1928.


Pupil of Professor Basov. Educated at the Academy of Medical Sciences.


Deputy chief of the Psychotherapy Department of the Institute of Doctors. For more than 30 years, carried out research into the effect of psychotherapy and hypnosis on the human body. Wrote (with his wife) Hypnosis and Medicine, 1955, and Hypnosis and Mystics, 1974.

Also interested in parapsychology. Involved with the experiments being carried out by Sviaduch and Romen at a laboratory in Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan. Together with Dr Shcherbakova and Dr Raevskii, involved in experiments to test the ability of hypnosis to affect personality and to influence opinion.

Involved in the case of Father Dimitrii Dudko and other religious politicals. Acted as Dr Andrei Sakharov’s doctor in the Semashko Hospital in Gorkii, administering neuroleptics to him.


Religious edicts impose irrational rules on people’s behaviour.


Every Soviet citizen has rights to express his or her opinion, but it should be in accordance with the general interests of the society.
