Because of financial difficulties, his family moved to the Ostankino village of the Bor district. There Vladimir graduated from a seven-year school with good grades. In 1958 he graduated from the Khmelev secondary school of the Sorokinsky district of the Altai Territory.
His career started at the university. During his studying at university Vladimir Afanasievich Kozhevnikov worked as a nurse in therapy, in an infectious department, he was engaged in a surgical circle at the Department of Hospital Surgery in order to get some surgical skills.
