Vladimir Nikolaevich graduated from the Alexander Lyceum (later Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum) (1865), attended lectures at the Faculty of History and Philology of St. Petersburg University.
Vladimir Nikolaevich Maynov was a bureaucrat of the special assignments of the Ministry of Finance, seconded to the Voronezh State Chamber (1869-1871). In February 1871, he was appointed secretary of the Voronezh Provincial Statistical Committee, but did not take office because of his departure to St. Petersburg.
He was a lecturer of French language at the University of Helsingfors (1880-1886), in the 2nd Cadet Corps (St. Petersburg, since 1886). State Counselor (1884).
Participant in the literary collections of N.S. Leskov (since the beginning of the 1880s). Member of the Russian Geographical Society (1868), secretary of its ethnographic department (since 1871). Published since 1868 in the magazine "The Business", "The Ancient and New Russia", "The Russian Antiquity", "The Historical Gazette." He prepared for the Memorial book of the Voronezh province articles "On the legends and beliefs of the peasants of the Voronezh district" (not published). The author of the article "The remnants of the avalanche line within the Voronezh Province" ("Ancient and New Russia", 1875, book 5), which describes the intersection line from the town of Demshinsk of the Tambov Province to the settlement of Urazov of the Valuysk District of the Voronezh Province, "Ancient and New Russia", 1877, book 4). He took part in the compilation of the "Ethnographic Map of European Russia" (St. Petersburg, 1875).
