Vladimir Nikolayevich worked for some time as a psychiatrist in the Astrakhan City Clinical Hospital. Soon he was sent to Kalmykia, in the newly opened Republican psychoneurological dispensary with a hospital.
In 1964 Vladimir Nikolayevich worked in the Moscow Regional Psychiatric Hospital No. 2 named after V.I. Yakovenko as resident and head of the department, then for a while – as a research fellow at the Institute of Biophysics of the Ministry of Health of the RSFSR. In 1966, he settled in the Moscow Regional Psychiatric Hospital No. 9 in Yakhroma. Vladimir Nikolayevich worked first as a resident, head of the department, then as deputy chief medical officer for the medical unit. In 1971, Vladimir Nikolayevich was offered the position of chief physician of the Moscow Psychiatric Hospital No. 5.
In 1974, Vladimir Nikolayevich Kozyrev was appointed first deputy head of the Main Directorate of Health of the Moscow City Executive Committee. In 1987 he moved to work as a senior research fellow at the SRI General and Forensic Psychiatry Research Institut named after S.P. Serbsky. Shortly thereafter, he was appointed chief physician of the Moscow City Psychiatric Clinical Hospital No. 1 named after N.A. Alekseeva.
Vladimir Nikolayevich Kozyrev is a Member of the Presidiums of the Moscow and Russian Societies of Psychiatrists and Narcologists, President of the Moscow Medical Association, Member of the Editorial Board of the Russian Psychiatric Journal, Editorial Board of the journals "Neurology and Psychiatry of Korsakov", "Social and Clinical psychiatry", "Psychiatry and psychopharmacology" and many others.
