In 1964 Eduard Karpovich Aylamazyan graduated from the 2nd Moscow State Medical Institute named after N.I. Pirogov (current Russian State Medical University). After graduation worked under assignment in Karelia as a chief doctor of the regional hospital.
Beginning from 1965 life of Eduard Karpovich was tied to the 1st Leningrad Medical Institute named after academician I.P. Pavlov (current Saint-Petersburg State Medical University), where he walked the path from a clinic resident to the Head of the Department. In December 1984 he successfully passed his PhD defense.
Since 1988 Eduard Karpovich Aylamazyan has been a Director of the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology named after D.O. Ott of RAMS. In 1988 he established a new chair of obstetrics and gynaecology at the Medical Faculty of Saint-Petersburg State University.
In 1994 Eduard Karpovich Aylamazyan was elected as a corresponding member, and in 1999 – as a full member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. Eduard Karpovich Aylamazyan is a presidium member of Northwest subbranch of RAMS, heads the task group of "Ecology and female reproductive function" of the RAMS Research board for obstetrics and gynecology. E.K. Aylamazyan is a WHO expert, full member of International Academy of national environmental security, member of European Association of obstetricians and gynecologists, chief editor of the "Obstetrics and gynecological diseases" journal, member of editorial boards of many national and foreign journals.
