Zakrzewski took the first lessons of drawing while studying in the gymnasium, after which he began studying at the School of Decorative Arts and Painting in Warsaw, where he studied under Edward Butrymowicz (1879-1944). During World War II he stayed in Moscow, where he continued his education.
Zakrzewski was the founder and director of Front Poster Studio (Polish: Pracownia Plakatu Frontowego) of Ludowe Wojsko Polskie (1944-1948) and a professor of Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in 1950-1952.
In the following years he devoted himself completely to painting, after 1956 he practiced post-impressionism.
He was an author of sociopolitical posters, landscape paintings (especially city landscapes of Warsaw and Paris) and figural compositions. He was also a co-initiator of socialist realism in Polish painting and poster. Besides, he had several gallery and museum exhibitions, including at the Galeria Le Guern.
Zakrzewski died in 1992 in Warsaw, Poland.
