(First published in 1903 when a large number of books prom...)
First published in 1903 when a large number of books promoting a 'Second Blessing' were being published, this little book is just as relevant today in view of the huge number of books promoting charismatic interpretations based on these earlier errors. It deals with all aspects of the work of the Holy Spirit with warmth and careful exegesis of all the relevant passages of Scripture.
William Edward Biederwolf was an American Presbyterian evangelist. He stays in the first rank along with such personalities as Wilbur Chapman, Gypsy Smith, and Reuben Archer Torrey. Biederwolf wrote more than thirty books including The Millennium Bible and volumes of remarkable sermons.
Background
William Biederwolf was born on September 29, 1867, in Monticello, Indiana, the United States to the family of German immigrants Michael and Abbie (Schnitzer) Biederwolf. Being a child, he was very energetic and would often walk up the Tippecanoe River, and then swim back down to the starting point. From the early years, William had a distinctly spiritual side and aspired to become a Christian.
Education
William Biederwolf attended Wabash College, a prestigious liberal arts college in Indiana. After that, he gained admittance to Princeton University where received not only his bachelor's and master's degrees but also a theology degree graduating from Princeton Theological Seminary. Next, he studied in Germany and at the Sorbonne in France.
Being a student, Biederwolf worked at rescue missions during summer periods.
When William came back to the United States after the studies abroad, he started his service as pastor in the Broadway Presbyterian Church. In a year, when the Spanish-American war started, he was commissioned as a chaplain with the Indiana Volunteers. Biederwolf spent six months in Cuba.
From 1900 on, William totally devoted his energies to evangelism. He wrote The Second Coming Bible, originally published in 1972. Besides, Biederwolf became president of Winona College, directed the Winona Lake Bible School of Theology, and founded the Family Altar League.
Quotations:
"God could annihilate you in a second if He wanted to. But He does not. He ought to. There are people here tonight who ought to be in hell for the way you are treating God. We'd all be there if it wasn't for His love."
