William Ewart Taylor Jr. was affiliated with the National Museum of Canada as an arctic archaeologist, beginning in 1956. He became chief of the division in 1960, and director of the Human History Branch in 1967, before moving to the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada beginning in 1982. He had also served as a member of the board of the Journal of Canadian Studies since 1970. Mr. Taylor Jr. edited The Arctic World and authored four other books on arctic prehistory. He was a contributor to numerous scholarly journals.
