William Welch graduated from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1938. He also received from Yale University his Master of Arts in 1947.
In 1951 Welch earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree from Columbia University.
Career
William Welch began his career as an instructor at Hamilton College, then he was an assistant professor of political science during 1948-1952.
From 1952 to 1960 he worked as a research analyst at the U.S. Government. William Welch was a research associate at Washington Center for Foreign Policy Research in 1957-1958.
Welch was a visiting lecturer at the University of California in 1960-1961.
In 1961-1968 he was an associate professor of political science at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He then worked there as an assistant director of the honors program in 1962-1967. From 1968 till his death Welch was a professor of political science.
Besides, during his career William Welch wrote "American Images of Soviet Foreign Policy; an Inquiry into Recent Appraisals from the Academic Community" (1970) and "The Art of Political Thinking: Government and Common Sense" (1981).
