Slocum. Commissioned Second lieutenant, United States Army, 1917, advancing through the grades to brigadier general, 1944. Served with 4th Division during World War I. Participated in Tunisian, Sicilian and Italian campaigns during World World War II.

Chief of staff and deputy commander United States Army Forces in Africa and the Middle East, 1944-1946. Professor military science and tactics University of California, Berkeley, 1946-1950.
