Yamaji Tosataro was born on 1878 in Kochi Prefecture, Japan.
Yamaji Tosataro served as president of Meiji Bussan Kaisha (Meiji Products Company), president of Kyokuto Whaling Company and thereafter became chairman of Taiheiyo Kaiun Kaisha (Pacific Marine Transportation Company) (1948) and counselor of Kyokuto Hogei Kaisha (Kyokuto Whaling Company) (since 1950).
Served also as member of House of Peers, president of Nampo Kaihatsu Kaisha (South Seas Development Company) and director of Yokohama Heavy Industry Company and few other companies. He made inspection tour of North and South America and the South Seas.
Held additional posts of counselor of Radio Kochi Broadcasting Company, auditor of Joto Land Company and councilor of Nihon Bajutsu Remmei (Japan League of Horsemanship).
