Yamanouchi Kazutoyo was born in 1545. He was born the son of Yamanouchi Toyonao in Owari Province at the end of the Sengoku period of Japan.

Yamanouchi Kazutoyo was born in 1545. He was born the son of Yamanouchi Toyonao in Owari Province at the end of the Sengoku period of Japan.
In 1590, after his service was dinguished Hideyoshi granted him a fief of 50,000 koku of rice at Kakegawa (Shizuoka Prefecture). After the death of Hideyoshi he entered the services of Ieyasu Tokugawa, who granted him another fief of 200,000 koku in Tosa Province (Kochi Prefecture) for distinguished services during the Sekigahara Battle (1600). It is said that his wife, who was noted for her wisdom, helped him to gain recognition.
