Yamao Masaji was born in 1896 in Tottori Prefecture, Japan.
Yamao Masaji graduated from the Law Department of Kyoto University (1924). He studied in Europe, mainly in Germany, as overseas research student of Education Ministry (1929-1931).
Yamao Masaji served as the professor of Koto Kenshi Gakko (Kyoto Higher Sericultural School) in 1924-1934. He became the professor of Hiroshima Higher School (1934), the president of Matsuo Higher School (1943), the president of Fukuoka Higher School (1945), the dean of Science & Literature Department of Yamaguchi University (1949) and later the president of Shiido Junior College and the principal of Shiido High School.
