Yanagi Chikamatsu was born in 1800.
A disciple of Senryii Namiki II, he wrote joruri plays chiefly for Wakadayu, a joruri reciter at Dotombori, Osaka, during the Kansei Era (1789-1800). Most of his works were collaborations with other writers. His plays are characterized by fine stage effect. Ehon Taikoki, Nihon Kenjo Kagami and Kaikei Kokyo-no-Nisliiki are among his works. Ehon Taikoki, is based on the life of Hideyoshi Toyotomi.
