Yi-Fang Wu attended Hangchow Girls School and Laura Haysrood Girls School in Soochow, as well as Union Hangchow Giris School. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Ginling College, Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from University of Michigan, U.S.A.. She got a honorary Doctor of Science degree from St. John's University.
She was the head of English department at Peking Girls’ Higher Normal School for one year. Since 1928 she had been President of Ginling College, Nanking and member of Sigma XI honorary scientific fraternity. She was Vice President of Chinese Student Alliance in United States in 1925-1926.
Yi-Fang Wu was president of Chinese Stndent Christian Association in North America in 1924-1925. She was a delegate to the Conference of Institute of Pacific Relations, Kyoto, China in 1929. She also was a vice Chairman at National Christian Council of China in 1929-1931. In 1933-1935 she was a Chairman at Executive Committee, China Christian Educational Association. She was a delegate to International Congress of Women, Chicago, U.S.A. in 1933.
