Yueh-liang Tang studied at St. John's University at Shanghai and Yale University in U.S.A. graduating with Bachelor of Arts degree in 1909. Postgraduate study was at Princeton University, receiving Master of Arts degree in 1915.
Mr.Tang was president of Chinese Students' Alliance in 1914, lecturer at Tsing-hua College from 1916 till 1918, secretary to the Chinese Delegation to the Washington Conference from 1921 till 1922.
He also took positions of secretary to the Chinese Legation in Havana, Cuba from 1922 till 1924, councillor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1924 till 1926, director of the diplomatic bureau of the North Western Army under Feng Yu-hsiang (he being a brother-in-law of Feng Yu-hsiang) in 1926.
Mr. Tang served as a commissioner of foreign affairs for Honan from 1926 till 1927, vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Nationalist Government in Nanking from 1928 till 1929, participated in the Northern Military Coalition in Peiping in 1930. He was engaged in teaching at Peiping.
