The son of Nakamasa, and the real grandson of Raiko (Yorimitsu) Minamoto.
Fought for the Heike family in the wars of Hogen in 1156 and Heiji in 1159 and when the Genji (Minamoto) family began to wane he was favored by Kiyomori Taira and given the title of Genzammi (third in rank of the Minamoto family) Yorimasa. Later when he perceived that the Heike's were also losing power, he plotted with Prince Mochihito for their destruction but in the ensuing struggle was killed in action at Uji (Kyoto Prefecture). Was an intelligent man and well versed in waka poetry. Many of his poems are included in Senzai-wabcu-shu and Shin~ Kokm-waka-shu anthologies.
