Background
Yoshikatsu was the son of 6th shōgun Ashikaga Yoshinori with his concubine, Hino Shigeko (1411–1463). His childhood name was Chiyachamaru.

Career
He defeated and brought to death Mitsusuke Akamatsn, who had murdered his father, in 1441. Because Yoshikatsu ruled with benevolence due to wise guidance, many common people appealed fo r his judgment in their grievances. Proclaimed Shogun in 1442 and died the following year.
