Yoshikazu Shirakawa earned a Bachelor of Arts from the Nihon University College of Art Photography, in Japan in 1957.
A freelance photographer since 1960, Yoshikazu Shirakawa previously worked as a chief camera operator for Fuji Telecasting Company (1958-1960) and as producer in the literature and art division of Nippon Broadcasting System (1957-1958).
Yoshikazu Shirakawa won the 13th Art Prize from the Mainichi Newspapers in 1972, the annual award of the Photographic Society of Japan in 1970, the Nika Prize at the 53rd Nika Exhibition in 1968, the special prize at the National Park Photo Contest in 1960, and annual Minister of Health and Welfare awards in 1956-1961.
