Yoshinobu Tokugawa was born in 1858 in Japan. He was the third son of Yoshikatsu.

Yoshinobu Tokugawa was born in 1858 in Japan. He was the third son of Yoshikatsu.
Succeeded to Moehinori, his uncle, and became 16th lord of clan (1863). During the Meiji Restoration (1868), took great efforts in carrying out clan administration with propriety and rendered important position to his clan. In 1868, at Boshin-no-Eki (civil war just before Meiji Restoration), sent troops to Tohoku District (northeastern part of Japan proper) assisting the government army. Later was appointed governor of Aichi Prefecture.
