Served four emperors — Junna, Nimmy, Montoku and Seiwa. Rose to the Court rank of Monjo Hakase (doctor of literature). Well-versed in Japanese and Chinese history and classic literature, he was an able writer. With Yoshifusa Fuji-wara and other scholars, he compiled "Shoku Nihon-Koki", which was the fourth volume of a history of the Heian Period compiled by the Court.
