The second son of Yoriyoshi Minamoto, and brother of Yoshiie Minamoto. Helped his father to subdue Sadato Abe and was rewarded by being appointed Lord of Mutsu Clan.

Yoshitsuna no MINAMOTO

When Yoshitada Minamoto was assassinated Yoshitsuna's son Yoshiaki was falsely implicated and put to death (1109). This infuriated Yoshitsuna who fled to Omi Province (Shiga Prefecture) and then sought sanctuary at Mt. Kolga. The Imperial Army under Tameyoshi Minamoto however, pursued him and Yoshitsuna realizing that he could not hold out any longer became a priest. He was taken captive, nevertheless, and exiled to Sado Island.
