Akamatsu Mitsusuke was born in 1381. Mitsusuke was the son of Akamatusu Yoshinori.
When Mochisada, a relative of his, was appinted military commissioner of Mimasaka (Okayama Prefecture), he was dissatisfied with the appointment and coveted the Guardianship of Harima. Infuriated upon learning this, Mitsusuke rose in revolt at Shirahata Castle. But Shogun Yoshimochi Ashikaga, aware of the injustice of Mochisada’s ambition, pardoned Mitsusuke. Later, be¬lieving a rumor that the Shogun wanted to take his territory of Bizen, Harima and Mimasaka (Okayama and Hyogo Prefectures) and give it to Sadamura, another relative of Mitsusuke's, and moreover destroy Mitsusuke himself, he invited the Shogun to banquet at his residence and there assassinated him. He set his house on fire and fled to Harima. There his forces were beaten by those of Sadaraura Akamatsu, Mochiyuki Hosokawa and Nobukata Take- da. Mitsusuke killed himself with his own sword.
In 1458, Masanori was appointed governor or constable (shugo) of northern Kaga Province.
