When Yoshitsune Minamoto, the younger brother of Shogun Yoritomo, fled to Mutsu after he fell out with his elder brother, Yasuhira’s father, Hidehira, protected Yoshitsune. But Yasuhira, contrary to his father’s dying wish to shelter Yoshitsune, attacked him at Koromogawa and killed him in 1189, at the request of Yoritomo. Despite this service, Yasuhira was attacked by the forces of Yoritomo, who wished to annex Mutsu. Yasuhira set fire to his luxurious residence in Hiraizumi near Senaai and ran northward. Yasuhira sent a messenger to Yoritomo to ask for peace but the Shogun rejected the request. Yasuhira was killed in 1189 by one of his followers, Jiro Kawada.
