In 1600 in the Battle of Sekigahara, he fought on the side of Ieyasu Tokugawa and captured Gifu Castle. When the Winter Campaign in Osaka broke out in 1614, he was in charge of repairs on Edo Castle at the order of Ieyasu. At the report of the battle, he led his forces to Osaka and defeated the forces of Harufusa Ono. In the Summer Campaign in Osaka in 1615, he fell back upon Kii Province (Wakayama Prefecture) and subdued Toyotomi forces in the area.
