Formerly a policeman of the Tokugawa Shogunate, he was a representative humorist of the Temmei Era (1781-1789) when Kyoka flourished. Kokin-Baka-Shu in 20 volumes an anthology of parodies which was jointly compiled with Yomono-Akara, another humorist of the time, was the most popular of his works. He wrote also comic stories Baika- Shin-Eki and Kakuchu Keigo.
