After leaving school in 1957, Alexander Kozhanov entered the Kiev Red Banner Military School of Communications named after M. Kalinin, who graduated in 1960, after which he was sent to the communications troops. In 1964, Alexander Kozhanov became a student of the Military Academy of Communications named after S. Bodenny in the city of Leningrad.
After graduating from the academy in 1969, Alexander Kozhanov was sent to the apparatus of the chief of the communications troops of the USSR Ministry of Defense, he was appointed a senior officer of the department, where he was responsible for developing modern types of military communications equipment.
Time dictated new requirements for military communication systems, and by 1979, completely different approaches to their development began to take shape. Proceeding from this, it was decided to create in the structure of the Ministry of Industry of Communications a specialized enterprise for the establishment of communication systems in the interests of the Ministry of Defense. Alexander Kozhanov, already in the rank of lieutenant-colonel, is seconded there. There he held the posts of the head of department, department, scientific and technical center, deputy chief designer for system-wide issues. Simultaneously, he was deputy director of the institute and chief designer of a number of communication subsystems. Work in the industry, Alexander gave 13 years.
In 1990, the military career of Colonel Alexander Kozhanov ended. In the early 1990s, the need for high-quality international telephony increased substantially. An enterprise "Cominkom" is being set up, the general director of which is Alexander. Soon it becomes obvious the need to participate in its business of reliable foreign partners - we need the latest technology, equipment. The choice fell on two eminent Belgian companies: "Alkatel" and "Belgakom". A joint venture of Combellga is being set up. Alexander Kozhanov, while remaining the general director of the Comincom, heads a new company. By 2000, "Combellga" has become one of the leading and popular telecommunications companies in Russia. As a result, the merger of Golden Telecom and Comincom-Combelga takes place. In March 2004, Kozhanov becomes president of the company Globus-Telecom. A. Kozhanov in 2006 becomes an adviser to the General Director of OJSC Rostelecom.
Alexander Kozhanov was elected a full member (academician) of the International Academy of Communications.
