Mitrofan was born on August 28, 1968, in Lipetsk, Russian Federation.
He graduated from the Faculty of Technology of Lipetsk State Technical University (1992), then studied at the Faculty of Law of Voronezh State University, from where he graduated in 1994. Also, he graduated from the Kostroma Theological Seminary (2003) and the Moscow Theological Academy (2007).
He worked as an Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper 'Modus Vivendi' (Lipetsk, 1989-1990), Head of the Advertising and Information Department of the Bank Lipetskkredit (1990-1991) and Deputy Head of the Department of Printing and Information of the Lipetsk Region (1992).
Then during two years, he was the Novice of the Valaam Monastery. From 1993 to 1996 Mitrofan was an employee of Orthodox church enlightenment organizations.
Also he served as the Priest of the Voronezh Intercession Cathedral (1997-2003) and, at the same time, the head of the publishing department of the Voronezh and Lipetsk dioceses, editor-in-chief of the newspaper 'Voronezhsky Eparchialny Vestnik', the newspapers 'Voronezh Pravoslavny', 'Lipetsk Pravoslavny', spokesperson of the diocese. In 1999 he started working as the Editor-in-chief of the magazine 'Istoricheskiy Vestni' in Moscow.
Since 2000 he works as a coordinator of the representative office of the church-scientific center Orthodox Encyclopaedia, and since 2005 - Hegumen and Vicar of the Holy Assumption Monastery in Lipetsk and Secretary of the Editorial Board of the journal 'Vestnik tserkovnoy istorii' in Moscow.
