Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Serebrov was born on February 15, 1944.
In 1958 - was graduated from seven classes of secondary school № 14 of the city of Kirov. In 1961 - was graduated from secondary school No. 36 in Moscow with a silver medal. In 1967 - was graduated from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), specialty "Aerodynamics and thermodynamics", engineer-physicist. In 1970 he was graduated from the MIPT postgraduate course, specializing in the physics of liquids, gases and plasmas. In 1974 he was graduated from the University of Marxism-Leninism at the Mytishchi City Committee of the CPSU.
In December 1974 - received the degree of candidate of technical sciences, defending a thesis on "Problems of thermal protection of a manned spacecraft entering the Earth's atmosphere after the flight of Mars".
In 1966 - he led to television Olympiads in physics, chemistry, astronomy.
From September 1970 - worked as an assistant to the department of "Physical Mechanics" at MIPT, in September 1973 he became a senior research fellow of this department.
From August 20, 1976 to December 8, 1978 - was a senior research fellow of the 111th department of the NGO “Energia”. He wrote instructions on the use of scientific equipment onboard the DOS “Salyut-6”.
From 1978 to 1980 - had been trained on the basis of the NGO "Energy". From 1980 to December 1981 he was trained in the CPC as a member of the group for the flight to DOS Salyut-7. Participated in the development and testing of space technology.
From December 8, 1981 to August 4, 1982 - had been trained as a flight engineer of the first crew on the program of the second expedition visiting the station DOS Salyut-7.
From December 10, 1982 to March 1983 - had been trained as a cosmonaut-explorer of the second crew on the program of the second main expedition to DOS "Salute-6" (together with Vladimir Lyakhov and Alexander Alexandrov). In 1983, as a result of a change in the flight program EO-2, I replaced Irina Pronina in the first crew and continued training as a cosmonaut-explorer of the first crew of EO-2 (together with Vladimir Titov and Gennady Strekalov).
From September 1, 1984 to August 1985 - had been trained as a flight engineer of the third (backup) crew on the program of the main expedition to the DOS “Salyut-7” (together with Anatoly Soloviev and Nikolai Moskalenko).
From September 1, 1985 to October 1986 - had been trained as a flight engineer of the first crew on the program of the second main expedition to the OS "Mir" (together with Vladimir Titov). From October 1986 to January 1987, due to the delay in launching the "Quantum" module to the "Mir" OS, was trained in the mode of maintaining readiness. In January, because of his illness, the first crew was removed from the flight by the decision of the State Commission at Baikonur and replaced by a duplicate one.
From December 15, 1988 to January 1989 - had been trained as a flight engineer of the first crew on the EO-5 program on the OS "Mir" (together with Alexander Viktorenko), The start scheduled for April 19 was canceled due to the ship damage in the pressure chamber.
From April 10 to August 1989, had been prepared again in the first crew on the program of the 5th main expedition to the OS "Mir".
From February 8, 24 June 1993 - had been directly trained to fly as a flight engineer of the main crew on the program EO-14 to the OS "Mir" (together with Vasily Tsibliev and Jean-Pierre Haignere).
1st flight- from 19 to 27 August 1982, as a flight engineer of the “Soyuz T-7 / Soyuz T-5” spacecraft and the “Salyut-6 DOS” (call sign Dnepr-2) together with Leonid Popov (commander) and Svetlana Savitskaya (cosmonaut-researcher). He worked at the station with the crew of the first main expeditions (Anatoly Berezovoi and Valentin Lebedev). Flight duration: 7 days 21 hours 52 minutes 24 seconds.
2nd flight- from April 20 to 22, 1983 as cosmonaut-researcher of the “Soyuz T-8” spacecraft (call sign - "Ocean-3") together with Vladimir Titov (commander) and Gennady Strekalov (flight engineer).
The docking with the station DOS "Salyut-7" failed because of the non-disclosure of the antenna rod of the rapprochement and docking system "Igla"on the ship. Flight duration: 2 days 00 hours 17 minutes 48 seconds.
3d flight- from September 6, 1989 to February 19, 1990 as a flight engineer of Soyuz TM-8 spacecraft and OS Mir (call-sign Vityaz-2) together with Alexander Viktorenko (Commander).
4th flight- from July 1, 1993 to January 14, 1994 as a flight engineer of the “Soyuz TM-17” spacecraft and OS “Mir” under the EO-14 program (call sign-Sirius-2) along with Vasily Tsibliev (commander) and Jean-Pierre Haignere (cosmonaut-researcher).
The flight was extended for two months due to the unavailability of the “Soyuz” BR to launch the next expedition.
Flight duration: 196 days 17 hours 45 minutes 22 seconds.
