In 1893 Alexander Davidovich Medem graduated from the physics and mathematics faculty of Saint Petersburg University, in 1899 he graduated from the Saint Petersburg Conservatory with a gold medal (professor K. Fan Arch class).
Alexander Davidovich Medem gave concerts in Russia. In 1902-1917 he was a teacher at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. Alexander Davidovich is one of the founders and active participants of the "Evenings of modern music". Since the autumn of 1917 he lived in Voronezh and worked as a teacher at the Voronezh Conservatory, in recent years he was in charge of the educational part of the Voronezh musical сcollege.
In 1920-1921 Alexander was in Kislovodsk where he headed the musical section of the department of education. Most of the works remained unpublished. He performed as a soloist, an ensemble player and an accompanist. Among pupils - N.I. Kwiecinski, D.G. Muratov, Z.M. Konstantinova, V.A. Merlina, E.P. Dobrovoleeva, O.D. Bogushevskaya, V.F. Miroshnikova and others.
