Alexey e was born in 1767, Russkoe Burnashevo village, Sviyazhsky district of the Kazan province, Russia.

Career

Sokolov Alexey was a teacher since 1793, and rector of the Kazan Theological Seminary. In 1798 he became a monk. Archimandrite of the Kazan Preobrazhensky Monastery in 1799. Rector of the Kazan Theological Academy since 1800. Bishop of Starorussky, vicar of the Novgorod diocese since 1808. Bishop of Voronezh and Cherkassy in 1810. He was a bishop of Kaluga and Borovsk since 1816-1819. Archbishop of Podolsky and Bratslav in 1819. Since April 1821, he was at rest, he lived in the Tikhonov Monastery in Zadonsk. In Zadonsk, he made a selection from the works of Saint Demetrius of Rostov as an independent prayer.

Achievements

• The author of the appeal to Voronezh on the occasion of the war of 1812. The initiator of collecting donations for the needs of the army (the diocese collected more than 50,000 rubles), funds for the construction of the building of the Voronezh Theological Seminary. Organized courses on the preparation of candidates for clergymen (1810), opened parish theological schools in Novokhopersk and Zemlyansk (1813). He is a connoisseur of church singing. He published about ten "Words", including the burial of the governor Alexander Borisovich Sontsov (Moscow, 1811), on the occasion of the noble elections (Moscow, 1813).
