Sebastian Stan is a Romanian-American film and television actor, who became known to audiences for playing Bucky Barnes in Captain America: The First Avenger.
Background
Sebastian Stan was born on August 13, 1982, in Constanta, Romania. When Sebastian was just two years of age, his parents filed for a divorce and went their separate ways. Then, at eight years old, he and his mother, Georgeta Orlovschi, moved to Vienna, Austria where she was employed as a pianist. Four years later at the age of twelve, his mother moved with him to Rockland County, New York. His mother soon found love with the headmaster of the Rockland Country Day School, Anthony Fruhauf, the pair later got married. Georgeta and Anthony met as a result of the fact that Stan was a student of the school.
Due to the fact that he wasn’t born a United States citizen, Sebastian Stan had to go through the mandatory process to become a United States citizen just like every other immigrant. Sebastian Stan became a naturalized United States citizen in 2002.
Education
As a student at Rockland Country Day School, Sebastian Stan got lots of opportunities to be featured in the school’s productions. Some of these plays include; West Side Story, Little Shop of Horrors, Over Here!, Cyrano de Bergerac, and Harvey. He also attended the Stagedoor Manor summer camp where he was introduced to acting and was cast in many camp productions.
By the time he was ready for college, Stan had fallen in love with acting and as such decided to pursue a career therein. This made him apply to several universities where he could study the art. Luckily for him, he gained admission into the Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts, he was able to study acting for one whole year at the Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London, England due to his school’s student exchange program. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
Sebastian Stan’s debut in cinema occurred all the way back in 1994 when he was cast in the Austrian drama 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance. Sebastian’s professional acting debut came in 2003 when he guest starred on the NBC series Law & Order as Justin Capshaw, a boy who was accused of murder and had been kidnapped and emotionally abused by his captor.
He was involved in Georgia Lee’s directorial venture Red Doors, released in 2005. The movie was the winner of the best narrative feature prize at the 2005 Tribeca Film Festival. Immediately after graduating from Rutgers in 2005, Sebastian was cast in Matt Tauber’s drama The Architect and Renny Harlin’s supernatural horror thriller The Covenant. He was cast in Eric Bogosian’s play Talk Radio as Kent in 2007 where he had a chance to work with veteran Broadway actor, Liev Schreiber.
Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst cast Stan as Leo Reilly in his 2007 drama The Education of Mr. Charlie alongside Jesse Eisenberg, Jason Ritter, and Eva Amurri. The movie premiered at Tribeca, winning the Made in New York Narrative Award.
In 2007, Sebastian first appeared on the soon to be hit CW television series Gossip Girl. Stan’s breakthrough TV role, Carter Baizen, made his first appearance in the episode Bad News Blair’and the last in The Unblairable Lightness of Being, totaling 11 episodes distributed throughout the first three seasons of the series. He then went to star in Rachel Getting Married alongside Anne Hathaway in 2008, as well as Spread with Ashton Kutcher, a sex comedy centered on a serial womanizer and his jilted lover in 2009. Also, in 2008 Stan starred as Hayden Panettiere's boyfriend for her music video Wake Up Call.
Stan was then cast in the NBC drama Kings, where he portrayed Prince Jack Benjamin, the closeted gay eldest son of King Silas Benjamin and an analog to the biblical Jonathan. Albeit the series was popular among the views, it was later canceled before the final episodes aired. In 2010, he had a part alongside Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis in Darren Aronofsky’s ballet thriller, Black Swan. Sebastian also played a character named Blaine, the main antagonist in the Hot Tub Time Machine.
Sebastian Stan hit a jackpot when he got the chance to work with Marvel Cinematic Universe, the most successful media franchise of the 21st century that has grossed more than $11 billion worldwide across all its features. Though initially reported of being considered for the role of Steve Rogers himself in ‘Captain America: The First Avenger,’ Stan was cast as Bucky Barnes in April 2010. Filming began on June 28, 2010, and the movie was released on July 22, 2011, in the United States. According to the very first sketch made by Joe Simon, the creator of the comic on which the movie was based, Bucky was the exemplary young sidekick to Captain America until he is killed off. In 2005, Ed Brubaker revived the character as the covert operative Winter Soldier during his run as the series writer.
Stan also portrayed this new version. In an interview to Collider, he commented, “Bucky to me was always interesting because he was a little bit more…he stood out more clearly in terms of someone who, you know, had flaws”. He reprised the role in the two direct sequels of the film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and Captain America: Civil War (2016). Stan then reprised his role as the Winter Soldier in 2015's Ant Man, by making a cameo appearance and appeared in the final films Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). He also lent his voice for Bucky in the video game version of Captain America: Super Soldier (2011).
Stan also starred alongside Amanda Seyfried in the thriller Gone, the USA Network Original series Political Animals as T. J. Hammond, a troubled thirty-year-old son of two politician parents starring Sigourney Weaver, Carla Gugino, Ellen Burstyn, Ciarán Hinds, and James Wolk also in 2012.
In 2012, Stan starred in the supernatural horror film The Apparition and began a recurring role in Once Upon a Time as the Mad Hatter. The A. V. Club described his work in "Hat Trick", his premiere episode, as "excellent" and placed the episode in their list of the 30 best episodes of 2012 from series which did not make their top list.
Sebastian co-starred as a NASCAR driver, Dayton White, in Steven Soderbergh's comedy Logan Lucky, portrayed Jeff Gillooly, in Craig Gillespie's biopic I, Tonya, based on the life of Tonya Harding, and also starred in the drama I'm Not Here.
Stan then appeared opposite Nicole Kidman in the thriller film Destroyer. Stan portrayed Charles Blackwood in We Have Always Lived in the Castle, an adaptation of Shirley Jackson's novel of the same name.
Sebastian Stan will star as protagonist Scott Huffman in the Vietnam War drama film The Last Full Measure and will appear in Monday, which are both scheduled for release in 2019.
In addition, he replaced his Marvel co-star Chris Evans in the drama film The Devil All the Time in February 2019 and will feature in The Chain. In April 2019, Disney confirmed a Marvel television series starring Stan and Anthony Mackie, called The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, would be aired on their upcoming Disney+ streaming service.

"Embrace your differences and the qualities about you that you think are weird. Eventually, they're going to be the only things separating you from everyone else."
"Sometimes with films you have the freedom to be able to, Okay, we got that take so let's try another one where suddenly I'll say this, or you'll get to improve. You can't do that with the stage. We have to make it new every time, and also within the structured settings."
"Just to get a job is always really exciting to me. I do feel there's a lot left for me to learn about movies, the subtleties of acting."
"I seem to keep ending up with these bad boy characters. I don't understand what's going on. I walk the street in New York feeling like I'm Paul Rudd or something, but apparently, no one else sees it that way. "
"The things I learned from my parents, what was deeply ingrained in their generation, is this idea of opportunity and the freedom to have an opportunity. The way the United States was thought of is as a place you can have this chance to do anything, to say, "This is my idea, and I get to offer it to you, and if you like it, I can profit from it." It's why they were so encouraging of me to act too because they knew how much easier it was to do here."
"Embrace your differences and the qualities about you that you think are weird. Eventually, they're going to be the only things separating you from everyone else."
Personality
Sebastian Stan loves to travel, adventure, variety and meeting new people, and he longs to experience all of life. He also loves to be involved in several things at the same time as long as he is not tied down to any one area. Change is constant in his world, requiring adaptability and courage. He has had a love of astronomy since childhood and considered working in the field before acting.
Physical Characteristics:
Sebastian Stan had to have a new metal arm molded and made for his character of Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier in Captain America: Civil War (2016) because he had gained over twenty pounds of muscle for the role and became too big to fit in his old one. His character Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier's trademark long hair has always been a wig except for in Captain America: Civil War (2016) because he had enough time to actually grow his hair out. In every other film portraying the same character, he didn't have enough time for it to grow to the proper long length because of other projects he was filming. Stan prefers to do all his stunts by himself in the movies.

While participating in a podcast with Will Malnati, entitled The Drop-In, Stan told that when he was younger, his stepfather and his mother thought he was gay because he likes acting, what "is ridiculous." He revealed that his first kiss happened when he was 10 years old and the girl was 16.
In an interview, Stan said he thinks about marrying and having children one day, but he did not have good examples of marriages when he grew up: his parents divorced when he was two. The father married again and the new marriage did not work either, the mother also married another and it was a beautiful marriage, despite this, there were ups and downs.
