Anatoly Ivanovich Potapov graduated from the medical faculty of Tomsk Medical Institute (now Siberian State Medical University) in 1964.
Anatoly Ivanovich Potapov took the post of Chief physician of the district hospital (1964), Chief physician of the Timiryazev Central District Hospital (1964-1966), Chief physician of the Tomsk Regional Clinical Hospital (1966-1975). He was the Head of the Health Department of Tomsk region (1975-1979).
Anatoly Ivanovich Potapov was the founder and Head of the USSR Scientific Center of the Academy of Medical Sciences in Tomsk (1979-1985). He was the USSR Minister of Health (1985-1990), CEO of the Erisman Federal Scientific Center of Hygiene of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation (since 1990).
