Klapper began his career as a postdoctoral fellow at Clark University in 1981. Three years later he took a position of an assistant professor at Northeastern University. Then in 1991, Andrew was appointed an assistant professor at the University of Manitoba. In 1993, he held the same position at the University of Kentucky. Also Andrew served as an associate professor at the same university from 1997 to 2001. Since 2001 he has been a professor at the University of Kentucky.
