While still a student began specializing in therapy and pathological physiology. Spent a year in Vienna, where he worked in Professor Notnagel’s Therapeutic Clinik and attended Professor Strieker’s lectures on general pathology. 1893—1900 intern, Therapeutic Department, Saint St. Petersburg (now 25 October Memorial) Hospital.
Then intern and assistant professor, Therapeutic Clinic, Saint St. Petersburg Women's (now 1st Leningrad) Medical Institute. 1903-1904 director, Andreyevskiy Koumiss Sanatorium. From 1911 associate professor, Petrograd Women's Medical Institute.
1915 founded Sanatorium and Health Resort Commission, League of Cities. 1918-1924 co-founder and dirCentr Lung Patients’ Station, Petrograd. From 1920 associate professor, Petrograd Institute of Postgraduate Medical Training and professor, 2nd Leningrad Medical Institute (now Leningrad Institute of Sanitation and Hygiene).
A koumiss sanatorium in Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic now bears his name. Did major research on the pathology of the lungs and on the clinical aspects and treatment of tuberculosis. Wrote over 80 works.
