Education
Creed is a graduate of Monash University and LaTrobe University where she completed doctoral research using psychoanalysis and feminist theory to understand certain practises of horror films.

Barbara Creed

In 2003 she published Media Matrix: Sexing the New Reality. Her 2005 book Phallic Panic: Film, Horror & the Primal Uncanny looks at the figures of Frankenstein, Dracula and Jack the Ripper and argues that these very male monsters are, using Freud"s terms, aligned with the primal uncanny. In 2013, Barbara creed founded the Human Rights and Animal Ethics Research Network at the University of Melbourne.
In 2006 Creed was elected to The Australian Academy of the Humanities.
Politics
Her doctoral research was published by Routledge in 1993 as The Monstrous-Feminine: Film, Feminism and Psychoanalysis.
