Background
Boris Kadomtsev was born on November 9, 1928.
Boris Kadomtsev was born on November 9, 1928.
Boris Kadomtsev graduated from the Physics Department of Moscow State University (1951).
The main research is devoted to plasma physics and the problem of controlled thermonuclear fusion. In the period from 1976 to 1998 he was the editor-in-chief of the journal Uspekhi Fizicheskikh Nauk. Boris Kadomtsev predicted certain types of plasma instability and laid the foundations of the theory of transfer phenomena (diffusion and thermal conductivity) in a turbulent plasma. He gave a quantitative explanation of the phenomenon of anomalous plasma behavior in a magnetic field. A number of works are devoted to the problem of thermal insulation of plasma in toroidal magnetic chambers - tokamaks. Boris Kadomtsev developed a theory of weak turbulence that takes into account the scattering of waves by particles and the so-called wave decay processes. In 1986 he created the theory of plasma self-organization in tokamak. Several papers are devoted to the study of the stability of the Earth's radiation belts, nonlinear wave processes, radiation transfer, and the behavior of matter in superstrong magnetic fields.
B.B. Kadomtsev took an active part in the international cooperation of scientists on the problem of controlled thermonuclear fusion. He was elected chairman of the Plasma Physics Section of the European Community, as well as chairman of the International Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee of the International Experimental Fusion Reactor ITER project being developed under the auspices of the IAEA.
