Boris Varneke was born on June 3, 1874, in Moscow City, Russian Federation.
Boris Varneke graduated from the 1st Moscow Gymnasium. In 1894-1898 he studied at the Saint Petersburg Institute of History and Philology. His teachers were F.F. Zelinsky the classic philologist and the Russian scholar I.N.Zhdanov.After graduating from the institute he taught ancient languages at the 5th Saint Petersburg Gymnasium.
In 1902-1904 Boris Varneke worked in Tsarskoye Selo Gymnasium. He wrote a series of articles on Annensky’s tragedies and translations, as well as memories of him.
