September 1962 - 25 May 1963 he was a back-up pilot of spacecraft "Vostok-5" under the program of joint flight with the spacecraft, piloted by a female astronaut. June 14, 1963 he was the back-up pilot of Bykovskiy on spacecraft "Vostok-5". October 12, 1964 he was the backup commander of V. Komarov on spacecraft "Voshod".
