Quotations: "I write late at night. I write down ideas no matter how trite or stupid they may seem. Then I pull my notes together and begin to formulate the next book idea or concept or chapter."
Bushong is a member of the Association for Humanistic Education and Development, and the American Counseling Association
The dysfunction in Bushong's childhood inspired her to write her first book. As a child, she watched her mother’s pain and suffering and fantasized about helping women learn how not to be dependent on men. The book was ‘in the making’ for Bushong's whole life, as she learned strength and independence on her own, worked as a counselor of children, taught assertiveness classes for women, and ultimately counseled couples. She spent eight years writing that first book and trying to find a publisher.
It was Colette Dowling’s book The Cinderella Complex that gave Bushong the impetus to begin the writing process.
Bushong was married to John Doty from March, 1969 till their divorce on January, 1972. She is a companion of Alan Charles Errickson.
