Daniel Burston was born on December 12, 1954 in Naharia, Israel. He is the son of Baruch Burston and Margaret (Diamond) Burston.

In 1985, Burston received Doctor of Philosophy degree (social and political thought) at York University. Four years later, in 1989, he obtained Doctor of Philosophy degree in Psychology at the same university.
In 1992, Daniel started to work as an assistant Professor of Psychology at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, a position he held till 1997. During the period from 1994 to 1998, Burston worked at adjunct faculty of C. G. Jung Institute of Pittsburgh.
Since 1998, he served as an associate of the Center for Philosophy of Science. In August, 1999 and July, 2000, Daniel worked at Austen Riggs Treatment Center in Stockbridge.
Daniel Burston also served as an invited and keynote speaker at numerous universities and institutes. He acted as a presenter at annual conferences.
Currently, Daniel holds the post of the Chair of Psychology Department at York University in Canada.
Daniel Burston married Sharna Olfman on August 6, 1990. The couple has two children — Adam and Gavriela.
